The Stakes have Raised…
Week three of the live shows, and the tension was noticeably increased in The Helix. To kick the show off to a great start, Team Brian performed “Life, Love and Happiness” by their Coaches’s side! A delighted Brian Kennedy was beaming with pride as the audience’s jaws were dropped.
Then, first up to the stage for Team Bressie, was our rugged heart throb, Pat Byrne who performed Jet’s “Are you going to be my girl?” along with eight of our dancers who gave us a very raunchy performance. Kian said that the performance was great and Sharon thought he looked “very comfortable” up there with the ladies! Brendan Keeley soon changed the night’s tone singing Joe Cocker’s “You are so Beautiful”, the experienced singer, oozed confidence on stage with Sharon saying that it was really lovely performance but it didn’t “captivate” Kian. Next up for Team Brian was Alan Fitzsimons who knew how to “break it down” to Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory”, he assured the crowd he chose this song because he was up for the challenge and that he was “here to win it.” Bressie praised Alan for not having a bad performance yet, though Kian warned him that he should be sticking to his strengths in this competition!
The smooth talking Gari Deegan was up next with his wonderful performance of Emeli Sande’s “Next to Me”, the Coaches had nothing but positive things to say about it; Sharon found that Gari “was a lot more confident” this week and Kian looks forward to hearing a ballad next time from him.
The oh so feisty, Claire O’Loughlin gave a gripping rendition of Pat Benatar’s “Love is a Battlefield”, Sharon said that the song really suited her personality, where Kian felt it was the a fantastic performance but that she was a little bit stiff! Up next for Team Bressie was the stunning Jessica Pritzel singing “Broken Glass” by Annie Lennox’s, this was a tough song choice, as Bressie told us, even “annie Lennox says it’s a very difficult song to sing live” but Brian felt she was out of her depth with this song, And Sharon complimented that she had a beautiful voice. Another lovely lady to grace our screen tonight was Sinead Fox for Team Brian, she sang Christina Aguillera’s “Beautiful” in a such a sweet way it made us want to sing along. Bressie loved her performance but Sharon felt she needed to lose herself a bit in the song! Our Rock Diva took over next singing Shakespeare’s Sister’s “Stay”, it was yet another powerful performance from Kiera Byrne and left the Coaches in awe, Kian felt she got lost in the performance like a professional would but felt her outfit took away from her voice! Our Panto Prince sang another Prince’s hit song “Kiss”, he definitely stole the show with his slick moves. Though Kian felt it was a bit of “a karaoke song”, Sharon thought he was a natural performer but she prefers the emotional songs!
And the final Talent of the evening was the menacing voice that is Conor Quinn, he had us at the edge of our seats with a song from his favourite band, The Black Keys, “Lonely Boy”. And it was definitely a performance to leave us wanting more, Kian thought he absolutely owned it.
We waited impatiently for the Results Show to start, but it was well worth it when Rizzle Kicks performed “Mama Do the Hump” in honour of Mothers Day, ahhh, how sweet! They had the whole audience dancing as well as putting the Talents in high spirits backstage.
The toughest part of the show came next when we had to bid farewell to two of our ten Talents.
In the bottom two for Bressie’s Team, Jessica faced Kiera and down to tonight’s song he went with Kiera. For Team Brian, Alan and Claire were matched up against each other but in the end Brian decided that it would be better to bring Alan to the next round because he felt Alan could go further.
As the weeks go on it gets harder to lose anyone from each team but we know it will not be the last we hear from Jessica and Claire. Well done, you did your Coaches and Teams proud.
